R25 000 the goal in Dr MK Manamela Soccer Challenge

Various teams will participate in the annual Dr MK Manamela Soccer Challenge which will take place at the Moletjie Ceres Young Fighter Ground on 14,15,16 and 21 December.

LIMPOPO – An amount of R50 000 was set aside to sponsor the tournament with the winner walking away with R25 000, runner-up with R15 000 and third and fourth place will receive R5 000 each.

According to the tournament organiser, Phuthi ‘The Great Bunene’ Matsi, the importance of sport for the youth is valuable and goes much further than the basic answer that it keeps kids off the streets. “It keeps young people off the streets but also instils lessons which are essential in the life of a human being. People learn discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, sacrifice and accountability through sports,” said Matsi.

He said he developed a policy which will assist them in running the games according to basic rules. “This will be an annual event and is a great initiative from Dr Manamela to give back to the community and empower the youth to stay off the street. It is important that future stars’ talent are identified at grassroots level. We aim to scout talent in the hope of producing young players for big teams such as Polokwane City, Baroka FC and Black Leopards FC. The other idea is to welcome the people from various provinces to Limpopo. Sport unites people,” he said.
