Soccer challenge has R60 000 up for grabs for deserving teams

The LTT Murunwa TVET College Soccer Challenge was launched last Saturday and caters for teams under the auspices of the Makhado Local Football Association (MLFA), Soutpansberg region.

LIMPOPO – Patrick Mudau, Director of LTT Murunwa TVET College, said that the sponsorship of R60 000 clearly indicates that his college wants to serve the community and develop sport in the area.

“We are part of this community and we do this to support the local people,” he said.

The coordinator of Makhado LFA in the Soutpansberg region, Mpfariseni Musekwa, said that identifying sport stars at grassroots level is important.

He applauded the sponsor for creating a platform where talent in the region could be identified.

Musekwa said it was painful to see that a lot of business owners keep all their profit to themselves, without ploughing back into the community.

The winner of the competition will receive R6 500, a floating trophy, a new soccer kit and gold medals, while the runner-up will receive R5 000, a soccer kit and silver medals. The team that finishes in third position will go home with R4 000 and bronze medals. The fourth placed team will receive R3 000, while the teams who end between fifth and eighth place will receive R900 each.

The first fixtures were played over the weekend and the competition will continue for four weeks.
