“I will run until I cannot run any longer”- veteran runner David Kubjana

60-year-old athlete, David Kubjana from Makgodu, says staying active is one of his biggest goals in life.

David completed his primary and secondary schooling in Katlehong, Gauteng and matriculated in 1987. “After school, I did not have the financial means to go and study further at university and because my parents were not working that time, I had to do part-time jobs, just to make ends meet,” he said. In 2012 he realised he had a talent for running and a fellow athlete encouraged him to take it further and join a club. “Running keeps me fit and healthy, in general, and is what I turn enjoy in life. I believe I found my passion and will never stop running. I have told myself I will make it no matter what,” he explained.

Aside from running, in his free time, David loves playing soccer. “I’ve realised that in life, it’s up to you to decide for yourself if you want to succeed in life or not in terms of your health. Therefore, do not let age stand in your of doing any sports, in fact, start training now if you want to become a successful athlete,” he advised.

Throughout his sport career, David has competed in the 21 km Tzaneen Marathon in 2014, 42 km Thohoyandou Marathon in 2015, 21 km Polokwane Mayoral Race at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in 2016, 48 km Cancer Marathon at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in 2018, 42 km Tzaneen Tuffy Marathon in 2017, 32 km and 42 km Mokopane Marathon in 2017 and 2018, 42 km Soweto Marathon at the FNB Stadium in 2018, 42 km Mayors Race at the Peter Mokaba in 2019, 56 km Two Ocean Marathon Cape Town in 2019, just to name a few.

He has won most of the race he has competed in and says he will keep on running until can’t run any longer.
