A common sight during the winter sport season is parents standing next to the sport fields and courts supporting their child and their team. We ask parents why they think it is important for parents to be at events, to offer their support.

POLOKWANE – A common sight during the winter sport season is parents standing next to the sport fields and courts supporting their child and their team.

According to educatedsportsparent parental support can play an important role in a child’s enjoyment, success and continuation of sport participation. With this in mind Review asked several local parents why they think it is important for parents to be at events, to offer their support.

Fortunate Mabunda and her son Ndzuniso.

Fortunate Mabunda said that for her it is very important to support her son Ndzuniso in all the sport items he takes part in, because she believes that it encourages him to be better and do better.

Tlou Batla.

Tlou Batla says that offering children moral support will keep them off the street. He believes that through involvement from their families, they get shown what the right thing is to do.

Manyathela Maemo and Dina Manamela

Manyathela Maemo and Dina Manamela says that they support their children to give them strength. They explained that when seeing their parents next to the field or in the stadium, they find courage to be strong and do their best, just because they want to make their parents proud.

Charlotte Makhubela and Caroline Ngwale

Charlotte Makhubela and Caroline Ngwale says that as a parent standing next to the sport field, it shows strength as a parent and this is much needed when children need someone to help them dry their tears, should they not do well or get hurt. They also think that sport involvement is important to keep children out of trouble.

Louis Schute says that it is very important for a parent to support their children because as a trainer he sees that it helps the child do better and try harder in what ever sport they take part in and at the end of the day it makes the child do better and have better achievements.

Chenique Brown is dreaming of Olympic gold one day and wants to thank her parents for their support because that was the thing that took her through a lot of difficult times on the track and that is why she wants to see more parents being next to their children as they take part in sport.
