‘Coach A’ is on his way to the AJC African Championships

The competition takes place in Morocco and happens once a year.

POLOKWANE – Local tennis coach, Amos Magagula will accompany the u/18 boys and girls National tennis team to represent South Africa in the AJC African Championships.

The competition takes place in Morocco and happens once a year. Amos sees the competition as a grand slam and says the players will be out of the country for three weeks. During their stay they will compete in a warm-up competition as preparation for the competition itself.

“I am going as their coach and will be helping the players to get ready for the competition and put the final touches on their play to do well,” Amos says.

When he returns around 9 March, he will possibly be taking the u/12 tennis team to one of the Southern countries to take part in another competition.

Amos says this will be the first time that he takes charge of a national squad and the players are mostly from all over the country, but not from Limpopo. This he says is due to the fact that most players of the province do not compete in many of the tournaments and this affects their rankings.

“It is very exciting for me as a coach to take these young players and having talent like the top seeded player to guide means a lot to me personally and means that my talent as a coach is something that people see and appreciate,” Amos says.

He adds that while they are there, they will be placing a lot of emphasis on the South African T-shirts as the players represent the country and they need to shine in their colours.

Other countries that will participate in the competition include Morocco, Tanzania and Egypt, among others.

“I will be looking for challenges when I go with the team, because I like to challenge myself and better myself for the sake of the players,” he adds.
