Star Sign FC take top honours at the Kilimanjaro Super Cup

Star Sign FC kept their winning spirits when they were crowned the winner of the Kilimanjaro Super Cup for the second time, after defeating Polokwane Vikings 2-0 at Seshego Stadium on Sunday.

POLOKWANE – The tournament was held in honour of Kilimanjaro conquerer, Sarel Nong and comprised of eight teams that participated to become the tournament champion.

According to co-founder of Polokwane Social Derby, Kgopotso Nong, this was the second annual Kilimanjaro Super Cup in honour Kilimanjaro conquerer Sarel Nong.

“The Polokwane Social Derby is a leading movement in Polokwane’s sport revolution. We as the youth of Polokwane believe a healthy lifestyle, sport and friendship complement each other. We are young hardworking successful personalities with the main aim of uniting the youth of Polokwane through sport. We encourage love and happiness and also continue to fight diseases through a healthy lifestyle. We ask business people to come forward to assist us in honouring our hero,” said Kgopotso.

Star Sign FC Chairperson, Kagiso Komote, said even though it was tough, they worked hard to win the tournament for the second time.

“We are the first team to defend the cup for the second time. One of the many benefits of regular exercise is increased and sustained energy throughout the day. We feel honoured to be the team that is honouring the hero Sarel Nong,” said Komote.

Sarel congratulated defending champions and the winners of the Kilimanjaro Super Cup. “I extend sincere appreciation to the community of Seshego and everyone who attended the Kilimanjaro Super Cup. It is always so wonderful when a community comes together to support this celebration and programmes that improves our youth.

“This started when I summited MT Kilimanjaro for young needy girls with Trek4MandelaExpedition team, we extend our gratitude to all the climbers and all who made it possible especially our expeditions leader Sibusiso Vilane, Imumba Foundation and Trek4Mandela founder Sello Hatang,” he said.

He said he didn’t summit Kilimanjaro and Mount Everest because he wanted to do it, but he was doing it for the people of Limpopo as a whole and South Africa.

“We are doing this for a girl child, but also looking at how this expedition will change their lives. I am very happy that the event has grown compared to the previous one. The community supported the event,” said Sarel.

He thanked the sponsors who invested in the event, which included MMP Security, Lebowa Funeral Palour, Pico Production, Chillers on Wheel, and Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
