Old age should not be an excuse for laziness as laziness breeds sicknesses and disease, says local soccer coaches

POLOKWANE – Elderly people in Polokwane are taking the lead when it comes to leading active lifestyles.

The older you are, the more likely you are to get diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, high and low blood pressure and many others. It has been been scientifically proven that leading an active lifestyle can aid  rds the fight against such diseases

According to Nteteku Mapeka the coach of Seshego Golden Oldies soccer team says most pensioners forget to exercise as they spent years of their life  waking up in the morning going to work and that served as a form of exercise.

“Since going on pension and leaving work I started feeling fatigued and my body became painful to the extent that I could not even manage to take a short walk in my neighbourhood. My doctor suggested that I must start exercising as that will help to ease the pains and also assist to keep me active. So I found out about Seshego Golden Oldies soccer team and joined the team,” he explained.

As the result of his commitment and energy Nteteku is now the team coach.

“The Oldies encourage the youth to adopt to active lifestyle so that they to may lead healthier lives and live longer. An active body leads to an active mind which means productivity and progress in ones life.”

Sharing similar sentiments is Coach Frans Boroto from Mmotong wa Perekisi. Frans says that old age should not be an excuse for laziness as laziness breeds sicknesses and disease.

“Eexercising is a must and a lot of social illnesses can be prevented through active lifestyles,” Frans concluded.
