Women celebrated in special race on 9 August

The Mzansi Athletics Club in Polokwane wants to promote running in the city and honour women on Women's Day and Month.

POLOKWANE – On Wednesday 9 August a special Women’s Day race will be held, the race will start and finish at the Polokwane Cricket Club in Suid Street.

The run will be divided in a 21,1 km race that will start at 07:00, a 10 km race that will start at 07:00 and a 5 km fun run that will start at 07:15.

Registration for the race can be done on Wednesday, 8 August between 16:00 and 19:00 and on Thursday, 9 August between 05:00 and 06:45 at the Polokwane Cricket Club.

The prize money for the 21,1 km:

• R500 for the men’s winner, R300 for the second place and R200 for the third place.

• R300 for the women’s winner and R100 for the second place.

• R200 for the masters’ winner, grand masters and men 70 years and older.

• R300 for the junior men and women’s winner and R200 for the second place.

• First walker R200.

• The first five finishers will each receive a gold medal, the next 10 will receive silver medals and the rest of the runners will receive bronze medals.

Race rules include that the minimum age for runners is 14 years for the 10 km and 16 for the 21,1 km.

The race will be run under the rules of Athletics South Africa. The race referees’ decision is final.

There will be refreshment stations at every 3 km intervals and the cut-off time for the 10 km is two hours, three hours and 30 minute for the 21,1 km.
