Cosafa Cup to be hosted in Polokwane

All 23 matches will be played over a 14-day period at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex and the Seshego Stadium.

POLOKWANE – The 18th edition of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup will make history when all 14 teams will take part in the regional showpiece competition to be staged in the City of Stars from 27 May to 9 June.

All 23 matches will be played over a 14-day period at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex and the Seshego Stadium.

Nomsa Mahlangu (Safa NEC member), Onicca Moloi (MEC for Sport), Stuart Baxter (Bafana Bafana coach) and Timothy Shongwe (Cosafa, Chairperson of the Organising Committee).

The entrance for all 23 matches will be free of charge.

The MEC for Sport, Onicca Moloi, did the draw to host the Cosafa Cup 2018 at South African Football Association (Safa) House in Nasrec, Gauteng.

“This is a proud moment for our beautiful province as it will be hosting this regional championship for the first time in its history. This opportunity comes at a perfect time when we celebrate the centenary of the founding father of our democratic country, Tata Nelson Mandela. For the Cosafa Cup 2018 we are expecting approximately 100 000 people from countries in the SADC region to come to our province. This presents us with an excellent opportunity to deepen our intercultural relations between our country and these 14 nations,” Moloi said.

She added it also argues well with Limpopo’s social cohesion endeavours as the province will be able to expose its rich cultural diversity to the rest of the region and embrace other cultures at the same time. “Economic benefits that will accrue will benefit local restaurants, accommodation establishments, filling stations and major retailers among others. Limpopo will therefore experience positive economic growth as a result,” she said.
