[JUST IN] Caster Semenya wins gold in the 1 500m final

Semenya has also set a new national record.

POLOWKANE – Limpopo born Semenya, who sailed into the women’s 1 500m final at the Commonwealth Games, finished in a time of 4:05.86, which was the fastest qualifying time.

Semenya, who is known for running 800m, beat that time to set new national record by finishing the final in 4:00.71.

She is a favourite to complete a 800m/1 500m double for Team SA.

The Commonwealth Games are taking place in Australia with South Africa currently fifth on the medal table with 21 medals.
