SAB dedicated to developing SA’s sport coaches

South African Football Association (Safa) Assistant Director and head of women football, Fran Hilton, said the SAB has made a big impact on developing coaches and players across the country.

LIMPOPO-  She said this during the South African Breweries (SAB) League coaching skills camp gala dinner at Utopia Place in Pretoria last Friday.

Altogether 49 coaches from across South Africa participated in the coaches’ skills camp.

Hilton said it is important that all the coaches should have D-licences, adding this is a priority for the implementation the league’s 2022 vision.

“It is important to groom and empower our local coaches and avoid bringing overseas coaches to guide our teams,” Hilton explained.

She said after 18 years of partnership with SAB, the coaching skills camp programme has contributed massively to the increase in local coaches. We have the most qualified women coaches in Africa and 28 Confederation of African Football (CAF) A-licensed coaches which shows we also value our women in the football industry. It is important that both men and women coaches of South Africa compete enough so we can be on the same level with overseas coaches.” SAB Vice President, Dorren Kosi, said SAB is serious about development in all areas of communities and committed to football in the country.

“The SAB is committed to start at grassroots level to ensure we scout quality coaches and players,” said Kosi. It is crucial to build a strong relationship between our coaches and bring them together as this will help them share their knowledge and skills.” Kosi said the coaching skills camp is not only for coaches to get in the field and guide players, but for them to ensure they are academically positioned as well. “Our coaches need to be able to cak up their professional coaching with education to help them succeed and open their horizons,” she explained.

She told CV the SAB will go big because they want to make a huge impact on the football industry. “We believe for someone to make an impact on people’s lives, they need to work hard. The 18 years of being in this programme shows our passion to the development of soccer in our country.”
