How to jump start the year on a healthy note

With schools starting for the new year and everyone grudgingly returning to their regular routine, the signs of the relaxing holiday still remain as clothes fit a little more snug and people are out of breath faster.

POLOKWANE – Review spoke to trainer and runner Corrie Calitz on advice how people can jump start their athletics this year. He advised joining an initiative like the park run is perfect for anyone to start getting into shape and being active.

“The Park Run is free and gives you a regular time and place every week to be active. It also gives you the opportunity to track your progress and see how you do and how you better your own time,” he said.

He added people can also join athletics clubs if they need a support base to help them stay motivated and to keep active, sharing their experiences with like-minded people.

“The most important part to stay motivated, however, is to set goals for yourself. For example, mark a race you would like to take part in and start working towards it. Having a goal will keep you dedicated and looking forward to something instead of just work aimlessly,” Calitz explained.
