Birdie bags Martens the win

Altogether 78 golfers took to the greens of the Polokwane Golf Club for the club day match.

POLOKWANE – The match was played in an individual stableford format on Saturday, 9 December amid pleasant weather. Butch Martens and Reghardt Schulenburg made the most of the perfect weather with Martens cinching the win with a stunning 20-feet odd birdie at the 18th hole. Schulenburg played a hole in one at the 11th hole.

Martens won with a tally of 43 points, three ahead of his closest rivals, Charles Mdluli in second place with 40 points on a count-in and Thabo Shingange with 40 points on a count-out in third place.

Earlier the week on Wednesday, 6 December, golfers participated in the Lexus Polokwane four ball alliance match.

Walter du Plessis, Janneman Groenewald, WJ Nieman and Willem Nieman emerged victorious with 90 point on a count-in.

Hot on their heels with 89 points on a count-out were Willie Faver, Andries du Plessis, Jack Schofield and David Hlabyago. Jan Nel, Piet Malherbe, Shaun Mouton and Charles Olivier claimed third place with 89 points on a count-in.

The players who received prizes for playing nearest to the pin were Kobus Marnewick on the fourth hole and Kirk Twine on the 11th hole. The prizes for the longest drives went to Azhar Suliman on the seventh hole and Peter Masehela on the 12th hole.
