From Jozi to Polokwane for charity

Walter Rachidi braved 400 km on his bicycle to raise funds for Christmas gifts and food for the less fortunate.

POLOKWANE – While December is a month characterised by family time, food and gifts stacked up the Christmas tree, Hwibidu Group’s Managing Director Walter Rachidi, took some time out from these festivities to do his bit for charity.

Rachidi embarked on a two-and-a-half-day cycle charity tour from Johannesburg to Polokwane to raise funds for Christmas gifts and food for those in need.

His theme for the cycle charity tour titled ‘Why Hunger’ was also one to create awareness for disadvantaged children and the elderly over this festive season.

“I thought to myself, when it is Christmas time, we tend to forget the children and the elderly who are not going to have someone to give them gifts or even food for Christmas. That is why I took on this challenge to make people aware of these children and the elderly in NGO’s during this festive period,” Walter explained.

According to Walter, this tour was a challenging one as he had to battle with the hot weather conditions and hills.

“We donated gifts, basic essentials and food parcels to four NGO’s in Limpopo. About 360 children and 60 elderly persons benefitted from this charity cause. It might have been very tough, but it was all worth it, especially to see the happy faces of some of the children and representatives of these NGO’s after receiving the donations,” he added.

His company also donated an amount of R30 000 to the cause.

Although he describes the cycle tour as a challenging one, he does however emphasise that he would without a doubt, relive the experience.

Walter is a regular campaigner and charity supporter and has been involved in a number of charitable ventures over the past five years.

These ventures among others included the donation and collection of school shoes and food parcels.
