‘Boosting’ health one Zumba class at a time

While working in the corporate world as a business analyst, Sadie Moabelo (27) stumbled along a few other passions that have now become her own.

POLOKWANE – Sadie is now a Zumba dance instructor and the owner of a Boost Juice Bar at Mall of the North.

Sadie is really passionate on inspiring the younger and older generation to live fit and healthy lives and she does this by means of her Zumba classes, as this has also helped in shaping her life.

“I was overweight and the penny dropped when I was dress shopping and looked at myself in the dressing room mirror, my heart sank.

“Needless to say, I took the decision that fateful day in 2015 to change my lifestyle and work on being healthier, and if weight loss came with that, then great. I then enrolled as a Zumba instructor in the same year, ate healthier and really loved it,” she explained.

She now offers Zumba classes at Virgin Active Thornhill and also offers private sessions upon request for individuals who would like to stay fit and in shape.

One of her main inspirations happens to be her mother, who not only instilled a number of values in her, but who also encouraged her to pursue her dreams reminding her that nothing could ever be too far from her reach.

She completed her BA degree in management at the University of Cape Town and carried on pursuing her academic career, studying towards a Postgraduate Diploma in project management from Mancosa. “While studying at UCT, I consequently studied towards a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification in the hopes of one day doing a teaching stint overseas,” she added.

After the completion of her overall studies, she returned home and purchased a healthy food franchise.

“It was an already existing business that I bought into and wanted to advocate for a fresh brand that advocates healthy eating made easy.

“I also registered a company called Fit Passion in 2016 which focuses on my love for dance fitness,” she explained.

According to Sadie, Zumba is the perfect exercise for one to kick start a healthy lifestyle.

“Zumba is inclusive and because it is an exercise in disguise, all age groups are welcome.

“My class has participants as young as nine and some are over 40 years old.

Zumba is a social dance, it has been my saving grace in more ways than one, and it is my outlet when I’m happy, sad and really just trying to make sense of things at most times.

“I love how it brings strangers together through our favorite moves and music. It is mood boosting and increases confidence. I have seen some closed in members come out of their shell, become more self assertive and confident in their skin.

“Beauty is not in a shape, size or colour and once you change that mindset in people, you see a massive change,” she explained.

She also believes that in everything that an individual does, they should always remember to leave footprints of kindness wherever they go.

“Everything I do must impact and touch lives. If it doesn’t, then it’s not for you,” she concluded.
