Spirited Platinum Stars show vigour

Struggling Platinum Stars played their hearts out to hold the current log leaders of Absa Premier League Baroka FC to 2-all draw at the Peter Mokaba Sport Complex on Sunday.

POLOKWANE – Stars showed a spirit of commitment from the onset and a draw was their well-deserved reward.

Although Stars showed cohesion in all departments throughout the match, the performance of their striker, Robert Ngambi and Bonginkosi Ntuli, was outstanding. Ngambi was everywhere giving support to both his midfielders and making sure that his danger area was clean throughout.

Siphiwe Mnguni of Stars is ready to clear the ball from Siphelele Ntshangase.

Stars scored their first goal via Katlego Otladisa after a rebound following Siyabonga Zulu. The half time score was 1-0 in favour of Stars.

In the second half, Baroka continued to pressurise Stars in their search for an equaliser goal. Their efforts did not pass without reward, and the goal came when Siphelele Ntshangase dished up a precooked pass to Mpho Kgaswane, who hit the target after a scramble within the box.

Players who were reprimanded were Siyabonga Zulu. Robert Ngambi of Stars scored his team a second goal. Baroka made early changes in the second half to their starting line-up, replacing Siphelele Ntshangase.

Robin Ngalande of Baroka equalied, running straight to the opponent’s keeper, Dino Visser, before sending him in the wrong direction.

Baroka came back strongly, but failed to break the rock solid defence of Stars, marshalled by Simphiwe Munguni.
