[IN PICTURES] Limpopo Sport Stars shine on red carpet

The best of the best in Limpopo's sporting world were invited to the 2017 Limpopo Sport Awards where they received recognition and honours for the hard work and dedication they have shown throughout the year.

POLOKWANE – This year’s ceremony was hosted by MEC, Onicca Moloi, and held at the Protea Hotel The Ranch Resort on Sunday evening in glittering fashion.

Moloi said among the school sport programmes launched, chess was one of the latest with the aim to help develop new dynamic thinkers.

Swimming was another sporting code which enjoyed more attention this year as the aim was to ensure a strong talent base for future awards from local athletes.

Treasury MEC, Rob Tooley, attended the prize-giving on behalf of the Premier, Stanley Mathabatha and said an awards evening like this was the perfect stage where local athletes can be acknowledged for their hard work.

He added there was a need for more corporate people to get involved and support the department and the awards to help further the talent and recognition of athletes.

“Sport can create hope where there is none,” Tooley commented.
