Local star scores BIG contract

A young and upcoming Mamelodi Sundowns soccer striker's roots are deeply nestled in the red ground of Mokopane.

LIMPOPO – Keletso Makgalwa (20) was offered a five-year contract with this soccer club.

Makgalwa told Bosveld in an exclusive interview that it is still unreal for him and he has to pinch himself to make sure he is not dreaming. “Football is my life and part of who I am. I grew up playing soccer in the dusty streets of Mokopane.”

Makgalwa was playing for the Limpopo team in 2014 at the SAB National Championships when Mamelodi Sundowns scouts approached him. “I knew then I was doing something right and my dream to play professional soccer can become a reality.”

Pitso Mosimane, head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, says Makgalwa’s career has grown from strength to strength in recent times. According to Mosimane, Makgalwa’s performances made him Multichoice Diski Challenge’s most precious find at the Premier Soccer League Awards in July and it was inevitable that he would be chosen for the first team.

Makgalwa says he is the youngest in the team and he is not expecting to play regularly for the first team this season.

“This season it’s all about focusing, learning and improving my game.

“I prefer to play next year – for now I want to learn the team’s skills, game plan and understand their style.

“Our coach, Mosimane, doesn’t want any lazy players and I have to work hard to show commitment and next season, when it’s my time, I will be ready.’

“I want young players to see my journey as a motivation and be inspired that anything is possible with hard work.

“You need to chase your dreams and never forget where you come from. The most important: always stay humble, pray and trust.”

Makgalwa says his goal for the next five years is to become the best and maybe one day he can achieve his biggest dream of playing for Arsenal Football Club in London, England.
