National Women’s Boxing title to be hosted in Seshego

MEC of Sport, Arts and Culture, Onicca Moloi, in collaboration with MamaRocks, will host the National Women's Boxing title on 25 August at Ngwako Ramathlodi Sports Complex in Seshego.

POLOKWANE – The boxing tournament is aimed at giving aspiring female boxers as well as boxing promoters in Limpopo an opportunity to shine and host boxing tournaments for women.

One of the boxing promoters in the province, Modipadi Kgasago from MamaRocks, a boxing club in the city, said she fell in love with boxing when she was young and she watched boxing matches on TV with her father.

“I am grateful to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, especially the MEC, for the opportunity, support and positive attitude towards this movement. This shows we are appreciated as women in a sport which is deemed as male-dominated. We are now afforded equal opportunities to exercises and pursue our passions in whichever fields or profession we desire. We have been crying for this opportunity and finally our cries have been answered which means Limpopo as a whole can now produce quality female boxers,” she said.

This is just the start of growing women’s boxing in Limpopo as there are several boxing tournaments planned.

The National Women’s Boxing title fight will resurrect the sport in Limpopo and restore hope to those who had to move to other provinces such as Gauteng in search of greener boxing pastures.

This tournament also seeks to inspire women to take the lead during August as it is their month, motivating them to contribute towards shaping the boxing industry in Limpopo with their unique and rare talents.
