Thohoyandou Stadium to host more games confirms PSL

The PSL made its final assessment on the Thohoyandou Stadium last Friday and announced that the stadium in fact meets their requirements to host NFD games.

LIMPOPO – The Thulamela Local Municipality said the Thohoyandou Stadium is ready to host games for two National First Division clubs based in the area namely, Black Leopards FC and new Tshakhuma Tshamadzivhandila FC.

It will be the first time the Thohoyandou Stadium hosts matches for two NFD clubs in one season.

The stadium has been hosting Black Leopards FC matches for more than a decade.

Now, it has to accommodate another NFD side, Tshakhuma Tshamadzivhandila FC.

Thulamela Municipality’s Manager for Sports, Ronald Makhadi, said: “We upgraded the condition and standard of the stadium. The PSL was worried about a certain portion of the pitch and we have since fixed that.”

Makhadi also said they are refurbishing the Makwarela Stadium so that it can also host some NFD games.

He said the R40 million project had already started.

“We are going to put up a grand stand of modern standards as it is also our wish that once it is completed, some of the matches can be played there for fear of over utilising Thohoyandou Stadium.

Tshakhuma Tshamadzivhandila FC Spokesperson, Livhuwani Madzuwe, said they have already identified Giyani Stadium as another alternative venue.

“After we consulted PSL regarding Thohoyandou Stadium, we looked around and chose Giyani Stadium as another alternative venue to host NFD games, however, the municipality indicated to us that there is a lot that still needs to be fixed,” said Madzuwe.

Meanwhile, Black Leopards FC Spokesperson, Berry Ramunenyiwa, said they were confident they would continue playing their matches at Thohoyandou Stadium.
