Sky is the limit for marathon runner Timothy Munzhelele

Timothy Munzhelele took the 17th position during the recent Comrades Marathon

LIMPOPO – Thulamela Municipality congratulated its very own international marathon runner, Timothy Munzhelele, who took position 17 out of 20 000 marathon runners during the Comrades Marathon which was recently run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.

Munzhelele (29), a young athlete who was born and bred in the rural village of Vuvha near Mutale in Ward 4, said the sky is now the limit for him and he hopes to be on the top ten next year.

He urged other runners to keep practicing so they can emerge as winners.

According to Munzhelele, he developed a passion for running at an early age while he was a learner in Luvhone Primary School.

He was inspired by well-known marathon runner, Sam Munyai from Tshikhudini village outside Thohoyandou.

The municipality organised a function on Friday to honour his achievement.

The Mayor, Avhashoni Tshifhango said Thulamela Municipality could not let the opportunity go by as this was an achievement that deserved to be celebrated.

“We wish him all the best and hope he makes it to the top 10 next year. This achievement was made possible by the youth who took time to identify his abilities and take action.

“This is a great achievement in our municipality and we have to remind the people that Comrades Marathon is an international event where participants come from around the globe to partake in,” he added.
