Local arm wrestling couple terminate their competition

Arm wrestlers Danie and Liana smashed records at the latest competition

POLOKWANE – Danie Fourie and his wife Liana took part in the Arnold Classics Africa at the weekend and did the city proud.

The Classics is a fast-growing, highly-anticipated annual multi-sport festival and expo and local athletes jumped at the opportunity to show off their skills and flex their muscles. Interest in the competition virtually doubled this year compared to previous entries.

Danie and Liana are to be congratulated for their achievements at the Arnold Classic Africa 2017 which was hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Liana bettered the new South African record she set last year, with her strict arm curl of 35 kg, by winning gold in her class in arm wrestling when she pulled 36 kg in strict arm curls and best puller in her class. Her closest competitor this year missed Liana’s record by 2 kg.

Danie took silver in left and right arm wrestling and gold when he set a new SA record of 68,5 kg in strict arm curls. He made an attempt at the world record which proved to be just out of his reach.

“It was a hectically busy super-fun weekend.

There was a lot to do and we want to aim for better goals and new records next year,” Liana said. The husband-and-wife team said that they met some amazing people and hopefully forged long-lasting friendships.

“We would like to see the meeting grow progressively. There is a lot that can still be done at the classics, it has a lot to offer and is a must visit for anyone who loves fitness,” Fourie said.
