The Shikwaru DebtSafe Mountain Bike Challenge was a big highlight for Limpopo and all cycling enthusiasts.

MOKOPANE – A day filled with excitement, sunny skies and fitness levels to the max was proof that the Shikwaru DebtSafe Mountain Bike Challenge was a well planned event on Saturday, 6 May.

This event was a big highlight for Limpopo and all cycling enthusiasts. There were 198 entries and Mokopane Cycling Club can give themselves a pat on the back for their exceptional achievements at the race.

In the 35 km race Carel Smit took the win in the junior men’s category and was also the overall winner in this category.

Luck was not on Bismark Olivier from Mokopane Cycling Club’s side when a Water-buck ran him over and cracked two ribs.

This did not prevent him from finishing the race as it is all part of an African experience. Bismark says he is a bit sore and stiff but back on his post at work.

The DebtSafe team would like to thank Paul Essakow who scouted the routes for this year and the organisers and participants for their hard work, sweat and joyful tears.

The event was thoroughly enjoyed by cyclists of all ages. The Reaching a Generation fund received R10 from each entry.
