POLOKWANE  – It was all systems go on Saturday 6 May as cyclists not only got their wheels pumped but their adrenaline too for the Shikwaru DebtSafe MTB Challenge.

The challenge took place at the Shikwaru Lodge outside Mokopane and was an opportunity for cyclists to qualify for Limpopo colours.

Both Zineddine Mengouchi (11) and Brayton Karassellos (11) took part in the 8km Sprog boys category where they placed second and fourth respectively.

Zineddine Mengouchi says the race was fast paced but he enjoyed it.

“My favorite part was the single racks. During the race, my chain fell off, but luckily I knew how to fix it,” he said.

13-year-old Aicha Mengouchi, who placed second in the 35km sub-junior girls category, says she really enjoyed the challenge.

This was Aicha’s third race out of the four needed to qualify for Limpopo Colours and says she is proud to be one of the youngest riders in the 35km category.

“This race was the most challenging of the three I did so far because it was more technical but the scenery made up for it,” she told Review.
