Leopards sharpen claws ahead of season

Black Leopards coach, Jean-Francois Losciuto, remains adamant his team will be in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) next season.

LIMPOPO – Losciuto said being in the third position on the log does not worry them because their points are equal to the team in the second position, Stellenbosch FC.

“Stellenbosch is ahead of us because of goal difference. Our win against Amazulu on Saturday strengthened our position after we lost 2-0 against Jomo Cosmos last Wednesday. I have a highly competent team and I believe in them. They play total football, however, the striking force remains one of the areas we must focus on.

“We are still in the race and the boys must win all their remaining games to stay in the running.

“Currently the top team, Thanda Royal Zulu, is ahead of us by 10 points,” said Losciuto.

“This afternoon (Wednesday) Thanda Royal Zulu will lock horns with Stellenbosch at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex. Black Leopards is in KwaZulu-Natal to play against Real Eagles at Harry Gwala Stadium while Magesi FC hosts Cape Town All Stars at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Black Leopards must win their match against Real Eagles if they want to remain in the race for the Premier Soccer League.

“The race is on and anything can still happen.”

Magesi FC CEO, John Mathibe, said his boys are well prepared for this afternoon’s match.

“It will be a tough match but coming here to Polokwane to challenge us is like provoking a lion in its den. We lost 2-1 against Thanda Royal Zulu on Sunday and a win will give us a big boost,” Mathibe said.

In the PSL, Baroka FC shared the spoils with Bloemfontein Celtic during their match at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex on Sunday.

Polokwane City collected the maximum points after beating Free State Stars 2-1 at Goble Park Stadium last Saturday. This placed Polokwane City in the sixth position on the PSL log with 37 points, while Baroka remains in the 15th position with 23 points.
