City and United share the spoils

Polokwane City was held to a 1-1 draw by Maritzburg United during their PSL clash played at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

POLOKWANE – Both sides were displaying an interesting football and it was also the first away match for Roger de Sa as the coach of the team of choice. He was appointed last month, replacing Ernst Middendorp who resigned last month.

After a goaless first half, Maritzburg came back well-organized in the second-half where they find the back of the net through Mohau Mokate in the 49 minutes after a lack of concentration by Rise & Shine defenders.

Rise & Shine tried its best to equalize but it was difficult to crack Bandile Shandu, Bevan Fransman and Denis Weiduch’s wall. The three were solid at the back clearing all dangerous set-piece from City’s wingers Tlou Segolela and Rodney Ramagalela

City was awarded a penalty in the 80 minutes after the Team of Choice’s Bevan Fransman rough-tackled Sipho Jembula in the box. City striker, Jabu Maluleke took a very trick penalty that sent keeper Bongani Mpandle  to the wrong direction.

It was 1-1 when the referee blew the end whistle. Although City are the host, their coach Luc Eymael expressed his happiness for not losing the game.
