Howzat? No covers for cricket pitch at club

Players complained there was no pitch cover after rain affected their game over the weekend. The covers are provided by the municipality.

POLOKWANE – Summer is cricket season but with the seasonal rains, it is impossible at times for the local cricket teams to make use of the Polokwane Cricket Club.

During a visit on Saturday to the club game between Aces and Eagles, a rain shower erupted and forced players off the field.

Though the Polokwane Municipality could do nothing about the rain, the players complained there was no pitch cover.

According to Sedibu Mohlaba, Limpopo Impala’s Cricket Association’s Club Coordinator and Finance Officer, the covers are provided by the municipality and therefore the association cannot do anything about the matter. “We do know that those covers are very expensive, up to R40 000 each and therefore we hope to get at least one as the new cricket season start. The municipality is working on the problem.”

At the time of going to print, Municipal Spokesperson, Disree Manyane, was not available for comment.
