Top runners set to make history at 100km World Championships

Well-known local runner, Johan van der Merwe has assembled a South African team consisting of the country’s top runners, with the hopes of making it into record books.

LIMPOPO – South Africa is set to make history at the end of the week during the 100km World Championships.

Well-known local runner, Johan van der Merwe has assembled a South African team consisting of the country’s top runners, with the hopes of making it into record books.

Comrades Marathon winners, David Gatebe, Gif Kelehe, Bongmusa Mthembu and Ludwick Mamabolo, and three-time Comrades Marathon gold medallist, Rufus Photo all form part of the team that will travel to Los Alcazares, Spain to compete on Sunday, 27 November.

Van der Merwe added he believes the super star team will be more than capable of chasing the world record which was set by the Russian team in 2000 with a time of 19:37:39.
