PAC honour athletes

The shining athletes of the Polokwane Athletic Club (PAC) were honoured for their outstanding achievements through the year during the PAC annual general meeting last Friday.

POLOKWANE – Several top athletes received awards and accolades from PAC Chairperson, Corrie Calitz, on behalf of the club as a token of appreciation for being such dedicated members of the club.

Before the handing over ceremony, Calitz said he was pleased with the results and rewards the club has reaped throughout the year, having hosted eight successful events including the Mayoral Race as well as the Mazda Nite Race.

“The Mazda Nite Race was a big success and saw 450 runners come together to compete. We hope to make next year’s event even bigger and more fun for all,” he said.

Awards for the evening included male and female supporter of the year, best improved male and female athlete and the coveted male and female athlete of the year award.

These awards are given to athletes according to their performances year-round during races, regular attendance of time trials, assistance during club functions and races as well as ambassador skills for the club. Andries Malete and Santa van Heerden were announced as the male and female athlete of the year respectively.

Calitz says they look forward to the new year and seeing the club grow from strength to strength.
