POLOKWANE – The South African Police Services (SAPS) in the province launched the back to basics fitness and sports day today (Friday).

This took place at the SANDF Karee military base in Polokwane were members of the SAPS were engaged in fun activities. This included aerobics, sporting codes such as soccer, netball and rugby.

Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe attended the ceremony and had this to say. “The purpose is to ensure that members are physically and mentally fit when they are executing their duties in the fight against crime,” Ngoepe said.  According to Ngoepe from now on each cluster and station will have their own programme.

The Provincial commissioner Nneke Ledwaba joined in on the activities saying he has to lead by example. “I am also part of the police so I have to lead by example. Fitness is the order of the day and it is important for  policemen and women to be healthy,” Ngoepe concluded.
