POLOKWANE – The Eastern Cape Fencing Open Championship took place at the Feather Market Centre in Port Elizabeth recently.
The Firebirds had their hands full as they had to fence against some of the best fencers South Africa has to offer, but this did not deter them and they managed to perform exceptionally well.
The Firebirds fencers who received medals at the championship:
• Charl Venter was able to take bronze in the u/20 men’s category.
• McKayla Nel took gold in the u/13 girls category.
• Michelle Butler took bronze in the u/17 girls category.
• Cailyn Duncan took bronze in the u/20 women’s category.
• Safiya Khan Patel took silver in the u/13 girls category.
• Anokha van Manen was able to take silver in the u/20 women’s category and bronze in the u/17 girls category.
