Firebird fencer brings home gold medal
Cailyn Duncan (16) recently made the Hadashah Learning Centre proud when she returned from a fencing competition with four medals.
POLOKWANE – Cailyn took part in the Gauteng 3 Ranking Competition 2016 which took place on 30 and 31 July. Representing the Firebird Fencing Club, she won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Cailyn placed third in the Junior Women’s Foil and Cadet Women’s Foil categories; second in the Junior Women’s Epee and first in the Cadet Women’s Epee.
Cailyn says this is the first time she won a gold medal. “It’s exhilarating, I am so happy,” she told Review. She says she will be watching the Rio Olympics fencing games to see the professionals in action. “It will give me a chance to learn new techniques and styles that I can emulate,” she says.
Cailyn’s next challenge takes place in October.
