Repairs at city’s tennis courts will be attended to – muni

Tennis players who visit the local tennis courts regularly will notice that the parking area’s surface is full of potholes. The lights on the premises are said to be faulty.

POLOKWANE – According to Suzaan Temple, an employee of the Tennis Court Club, these issues have been reported but the municipality had to wait for the financial year to end to attend to them.

“The lights in the parking area have not been down very long and we reported the problem to the municipality. The courts’ surface also needs to be redone.”

Municipal Spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo, says the municipality has an arrangement with the lessee of the facility to report such maintenance issues.

Regarding the unkempt surface of the parking area, he says the extent of the damage will be evaluated and a maintenance plan will be developed and communicated to the lessee of the facility.

“According to our information, it was only about two weeks ago that the municipality received a report about the lights and other maintenance issues at the tennis courts. This will be attended to as soon as possible,” Mothapo said.
Temple explained there were no security guards on duty for a while but they have all returned to work now.

There were claims about car break-ins and Mothapo says the municipality will investigate the claims and consult the security company employed to work at the courts to ensure security is increased. The facility is manned by security personnel 24/7.

“The municipality has an open door policy and the lessees of all our facilities are encouraged and advised to communicate directly with our facility management section to ensure our facilities are kept in pristine condition at all times,” she concluded.
