New PHS coach ready to take cricket team to new heights

'We can only reach success if we work together'

POLOKWANE – Newly appointed coach for the u/15 cricket team, Katlego Sempe, is the first coach of colour at the school. He is also the first English coach to take on a role at the school.

School cricket organiser, Linki Louw Roodt, says when she interviewed the new coach, she was very impressed with the way he conducted himself.

Review caught up with Sempe during the u/15-team’s practice session. “I am excited and honoured to be part of a team known for producing great results,” says Sempe.

Sempe played provincial cricket from the age of 11 to 19 and for Northern Academy in 2013 and 2014. He has since been playing for the Limpopo Impala Cricket team as the fourth batsman.

He says the biggest lesson cricket has taught him is to be humble no matter the circumstance. Sempe says the team can only reach success if they work together.

The u/15-team play their first match under his tutelage in a few weeks.

His message: The harder you fight during practice, the easier the battle on the field. They need to learn not to absorb pressure but to divert it to the opposing team,” Sempe advises.

“I would like to thank the school and the principal for the opportunity and I am confident that we will produce a winning team,” he concludes.
