Local MMA fighter reaches for stars with Fightstar

Local mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, Roedie Roets has signed a contract with the MMA promotion, Fightstar Fighting Championship South Africa

POLOKWANE – Roedie recently won the MMA Amateur lightweight belt and was named the world champion.

Signing a contract with Fightstar will allow him to compete against international fighters from across the globe in the MMA Amateur Championships.

He signed the contract at Ion Baciu Wrestling Academy in the presence of his family, friends, and the co-owners of Fightstar, Shawn Tyler, Grant Oliff and Pietro Cignoli, who said Roedie was the first fighter to receive a contract of that nature.

“I want to thank all my coaches, training partners and everyone who supported me and pushed me to be the best. I am at the precipice of my journey to become the best fighter in the world with the Fightstars team,” Roets said.

He singled out his coaches, Dewet du Bruyn, David van Ryneveld, Danie Ludick and his father, Jan Roets, for their dedication in helping him reach his goals.

“We know that the international fighters are very keen to fight our new champion, and we know he will be more than able to defend his belt because he is a top fighter and he worked really hard to earn the championship,” said Oliff.
