Roets ready to challenge for world title

The bright lights of Las Vegas are calling Roedie Roets who successfully defended his Fightstar Pro-amateur Lightweight title.

POLOKWANE – Local Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter, Roedie, recently competed in the Fightstars Fighting Championship where he defended his title against Nerick Sinoes.

Roedie proved his technical skills in the cage by defeating Nerick in the first round with an ankle lock.

“The fight was a great experience. Nerick is an exceptional fighter but I felt calm and in control from the start,” says Roedie.

FightStar is a South African MMA promotion currently running in Johannesburg and showcases top South African MMA talent.

“I think Fightstars is a really good experience and it is preparing me to chase my dreams of fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC),” he says.

Roedie will expand his experience even more as he is set to compete in the MMA Amateur World Championship which will take place in Las Vegas on 4 July.

Roedie says he is excited and can’t wait to compete in the event as he will face off against international fighters.

“There are a lot of doors that might open for me at this event, but I know the competitors at this championship will be of a higher standard than the local competitors.

“I really look forward to be able to compete on such a level,” Roedie says confidently.
