Something for cue sports fans

Blackball-pool players in the province will be treated to a pool expo held at Savannah Mall later this month.

POLOKWANE – The event, hosted by the Limpopo Blackball Federation in collaboration with National Blackball Federation and United Pool Tables, will feature some of the best players in the game.

Cue sports is the third most popular participation sport in South Africa.

Limpopo Blackball Federation Pool Administrator, Charlie Vorster says, “in our quest to make the cue sports discipline of pool more accessible to all the inhabitants of our country, we are embarking on a recruitment and development drive, especially among the youth. We endeavour to keep the youngsters off the streets by ensuring that they are occupied with meaningful activities.”

In order to achieve this objective, the Limpopo Blackball Federation will be displaying three pool tables at Savannah Mall to create interest among the people of Limpopo about the sport and to teach them the rules of the various games of pool.

There will be demonstrations, exhibition matches and competitions that will hopefully motivate potential pool players to participate in its formalised structures.

Vorster says this is a sport played by people of all ages and they urge everyone to come and have a look at how it is played on a provincial, national and international level.

Cue sports, and in particular Blackball-pool, is recognised by the Limpopo Sports Council and the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture as the South African Cue Sport is affiliated to the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC).

Vorster thanked Savannah Mall management for allowing them the opportunity to host the expo on their premises. The dates of the tournament are still to be confirmed. Vorster says they are still waiting for the National Blackball Federation to approve the tournament.
