SLC get squash tips from professional

The squash players of Stanford Lake College (SLC) had the opportunity to train with the fifth best South African female squash player, Jacqui Ryder.

POLOKWANE – The squash clinic took place at the Stanford Lake College High Performance Centre recently where 26 players came to test their mettle and share in Ryder’s knowledge.

She shared various techniques with the players and told them like any other sport, they have to practice as much as possible to excel.

SLC marketer, Rona McGaffin, said the coaching clinic equipped players with tools which will help them excel in the sport and gave them some new insight with the additional techniques they learned.

Reese Bain was among the players who attended the coaching clinic. Reese competed in the Penang International Junior Squash Championship in Malaysia last year.

The championship was part of the South African Schools team tour to Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Reese, who was ranked 22nd in the championship, had the opportunity to train at the Nicol David International Squash Centre in Malaysia to enhance her skills and improve her tactics before the championship.

“The coaching clinic was a great success and Ryder simplified the sport in a way so all players could understand. She encouraged players to put the skills they learned into practice to improve their game and to always work hard if they want to become the best,” said Mcgaffin.

She thanked Ryder for taking the time to share her knowledge and techniques with the players. McGaffin said the learners greatly appreciated the lessons and definitely learned a lot from the clinic.
