Local cricket star to shine in India

Local u/23 batsman, Hector Ngobeni of Phalaborwa, has been invited to attend a cricket training camp that will be held in India

POLOKWANE – Ngobeni was spotted by South African scouts during recent matches he played with Titans Colts and South Africa Colts.

He says it is his wish to play cricket in India, and he is delighted that his wish finally became a reality.

“I thought I was dreaming when my coach told me that I am among players who are invited for the training camp in India. I look forward to the camp and I have already started with training sessions to prepare myself physically and mentally,” he says.

Ngobeni, who started playing cricket in 1996, says he is happy to get offered this kind of opportunity and he will use it to build his name in the sport internationally. He says he will like to play for the VKB Knights if given the chance.

I look forward to the camp and I am sure it will equip me with better skills to up my game. I am my own inspiration because I believe that I am among the best cricketers in the country.

Ngobeni stole the limelight during the recent Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC) annual awards when he received the award for Most Improved Player of the Year, as well as a Cricket South Africa (CSA) Franchise Colts Team 2016 Special Award.

“This is my year to shine and I am ready to grab any opportunity coming my way. Being part of the Titans Colts and South Africa Colts taught me a lot of things and I am very grateful. I am hopeful that one of the cricket teams in India will offer me a contract to play for them.”

He thanked LIC and his coaches, Dumile Skade and Lucky Mhlongo, for their continued support and for grooming him and leading his cricket career in the right direction.

Feizal Kimmie, LIC Amateur Manager, wishes Ngobeni the best of luck and urges him to keep his head high and continue training hard.

Kimmie outlined that Ngobeni is one of the only two rural black cricket players who were invited to the camp.

“This is a good opportunity for Ngobeni and we believe he will do his best during the camp. He is very talented and I foresee a bright future ahead of him in cricket,” said Kimmie.
