Competitors shine at 1st orienteering marathon

Orienteering competitors showed mettle during the first Lebowakgomo Mini Orienteering Marathon

POLOKWANE – Held at the Lebowakgomo Stadium recently, the competitors competed in 5km and 10km races.

Orienteering is described as a family sport that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at speed. The sport needs someone who can think fast, memorize things and follow instructions.

In the senior men’s category, Thato Kekana was announced as the winner, finishing the race in a time of 27:53, while Maria Legodi was the winner of the women’s category, finishing the race in a time of 42:05.

Kekana and Legodi walked away with gold medals and a R500 cash prize.

Men’s veterans category:

  1. Jack Mathabatha – 49:00
  2. Sekolong Radeba – time unknown

Men’s masters category:
