Young siblings dominate the oval track

POLOKWANE – The Bent twin sisters and their younger brother currently dominate the oval track and have quickly made a name for themselves.

Tanieka and Diant’e Bent are nine-year-old twins whose passion for racing runs deep in their veins; their five-year-old brother, Jayden feels the same way.

According to their mother, Wendy Nourse, their love for racing comes from their father, Heath. “He is also a very active competitor at the Polokwane oval track and the three children are enthusiastically following in his footsteps,” she said.

The three compete in the Ninja Midget class and their performance has been impressive, with all three of them taking third place in the Polokwane Ovals Club Championship.

This is the first year they competed and the club championships was their first competition. When asked if they want to continue racing, all three of them replied in the affirmative without any hesitation. “It is an awesome feeling to race and we enjoy it a lot,” they said.

Nourse further said although they currently only compete in the Ninja Midget class, they can compete in the Rookie class should they wish to. “But we want to wait until they are about 12 years old before we let them race in the Rookie class,” she said.

Nourse said she and their father, who trains them, want them to train at least four times a month on the track.

When they are 16 years old they will be able to compete in all the classes against the experienced, senior competitors.

Competition is also very stiff between the three siblings, their mother said, but when Review asked them which one of them is the best, the twins said their little brother was the better driver. “He isn’t afraid of anything and he will go full steam ahead no matter what,” they said.

The twins attend Pepps Polokwane Preparatory School and both enjoy playing netball and hockey.

The three siblings are unanimous in naming their father their hero and role model.

Their mother believes without a doubt that all three of them will one day become great drivers.
