Raise funds

“The race was aimed to raise awareness about rhino poaching,” said Ronel Delport, PPCC president.

“The money raised during the race will go towards the conservation of rhinos. Rhino poaching is a headache in our country and we have to do something before it is too late,” she explained.

She added that the race was attended by learners from various schools in the province and she was happy with the way people came out to support the event.

To develop a love for the sport

Annelize Ziehl-Owens, race organiser, was also pleased with the first race for kiddies. “The race was very emotional and we all had fun. As cycling is regarded as a family sport we decided to host the kiddies race so that children can also take part and have fun.

“We want to introduce children to cycling at an early age so that they can develop a love and passion for the sport,” explained Ziehl-Owens.

“There is a lot of talent in the province but we need sponsors to take our athletes to big cycling tournaments around the country. We need to take the sport serious so that Limpopo can a be a recognised as a roleplayer.”
