World titles for kickboxers

Stefan Pretorius and Kian Kleynhans from Limpopo Sport Karate and Kickboxing Academy (LPSKKA) participated in the NMA and ISKA World Kickboxing Championships in Orlando, Florida in the US recently.

POLOKWANE – Stefan Pretorius and Kian Kleynhans from Limpopo Sport Karate and Kickboxing Academy (LPSKKA) participated in the NMA and ISKA World Kickboxing Championships in Orlando, Florida in the US recently.

The duo formed part of the South African kickboxing team after they were selected during the South African kickboxing championships in Cape Town earlier this year.

Pretorius falls under the South African junior advanced class, while Kleynhans falls under the South African junior development intermediate category. Pretorius competed in the advanced junior black belt division and became the world champion in point fighting. He also claimed second place in clash fighting and two fifth places in kata and light continuous fighting.

Kleynhans became a double world champion in the intermediate division after he won gold in clash fighting and light continuous fighting. He also scooped second place in point fighting and a fifth place in kata.

The duo was led by their three coaches on the sidelines: sensei Nico Myburgh (Sr), sensei Nico Myburgh (Jr) and sensei Henno Vogel.

Myburgh (Sr) said hard work, dedication, commitment and many rounds of fighting from junior and senior students from the Limpopo Province Sport Karate and Kickboxing Club paid off and they are happy with the results. He added that both students faced a lot of opponents in their categories and had to use all their skills in order to beat the best in the world to win these titles.

The coaches of LPSKKA thanked all their students for their commitment in helping Pretorius and Kleynhans to prepare prior to the world championships.

They further thanked the parents for trusting the club with their children.
