LIMPOPO – THE descent from cloud nine to terra firma is the oldest sporting journeys, but over the weekend it was a reminder for Limpopo Basketball Association that success does not come cheap.

Pride, the provincial team was dealt a blow when they lost 69-58 to Free State Warriors.

At this juncture the head honchos, especially head coach Sinky Mphahlele, found himself between a rock and a hard place, trying to find the winning formula.

Mphahlele’s Pride charges returned from the Johannesburg Wembly sports facilities with their tails between their legs following their defeat against the belligerent warrior men from the land of the cheetahs.

In a post-match interview, Mphahlele said: “we lost against an organised team which has been together for a while now. Moreover, they enjoy the support of their provincial government, who provide them with facilities where they train together and grow as a team. We wish we can have the same benefits from our department”.

Seshego Sonics B, Solomondale Pacers and University of Limpopo (UL) Bulldogs also participated in a tournament in Seshego over the weekend.

The host side Sonics A, the senior men of Seshego, were conspicuous by their absence.

The younger generation of Sonics won 69-39 against Pacers.

The Solomandale-based outfit lost 59-64 against UL.
