Wrestlers face the cream of SA’s crop

With wrestlers from all over South Africa coming to compete in the South African Cadet and Senior Wrestling Championships taking place in Boksburg on July 3 and July 4, the Limpopo wrestlers had a tough job ahead of them in showcasing their best efforts.

POLOKWANE – With wrestlers from all over South Africa coming to compete in the South African Cadet and Senior Wrestling Championships taking place in Boksburg on July 3 and July 4, the Limpopo wrestlers had a tough job ahead of them in showcasing their best efforts.

Louis de Lange, Limpopo Wrestling Association president, said that the level of wrestling was very high and the wrestlers from Limpopo were committed to making the people proud.

“We have the best wrestlers in the province, they are very talented and competitive in national championships.

“We have been winning a lot of medals in various championships and we will continue doing our best to win more awards,” said De Lange.

Jan Roets, Ion Baciu Wrestling Club head coach, said he was proud of the wrestlers who competed.

He added that wrestlers managed to win medals in the championships and this was all because of the hard work and dedication they put into the championships.

He further said the province was fortunate to have such a team of devoted wrestlers.

The eight wrestlers made their teams proud, four of them bringing home the gold medals.

Results for the cadet and senior wrestling championships:

• Men cadet 54 to 58 kg freestyle division champion, Francois Rossouw.

• Men seniors 65 to 70 kg freestyle division champion, Terry van Rensburg.

• Men seniors 74 to 86 kg freestyle division champion, Lucius van Rensburg.

• Women cadet 54 to 58 kg freestyle division champion, Monique Venter.

• Women cadet 58 to 65 kg freestyle division champion, Marie Oosthuizen.

• Women cadet 54 to 58 kg freestyle division second place winner, Rosie Pieterse.

• Men cadet 69 to 75 kg Greek Roman style, third place winner, Ian Gert Nel.

• Men seniors 75 to 80 kg Greek Roman style, fourth place winner, Marnitz Grobler.
