Wellness day enjoyed by farm workers at Du Roi
Hundreds of farm workers at Du Roi farm at Letsitele near Tzaneen participated in the annual Wellness Day sport activities held at Hlanganani Centre on Friday.
LIMPOPO – HUNDREDS of farm workers at Du Roi farm at Letsitele near Tzaneen participated in the annual Wellness Day sport activities held at Hlanganani Centre on Friday.
Workers from various sections of the farm competed in sporting codes which included soccer, netball and ladies soccer and marathon.
According to the general manager for Du Roi Nursery, Felix Hacker, the event started with a 5 km marathon in the morning and was followed by other activities.
He said the aim was to give the workers an opportunity to interact and to participate in sport for better well-being. Hacker said the winners in all categories walked away with a number of prizes including trophies.
The marathon in the female category was won by Ally Loughner Clarke from ANB Investment (Pty) Ltd and she had passed the prize over to Thembi Shikwambana of Du Roi who came in second.
Lawrence Baloyi from Indigo division of the farm was the winner in the men’s category and has received medals and trophies.
In netball, Indigo emerged victorious after humiliating Du Roi Laboratory by 14-7 in the final. In the ladies soccer finals, Duroi Laboratory won after they defeated Indigo by 1-0. The final for the men soccer was played between Duroi Laboratory and Indigo in which Indigo emerged the winner after scoring 1-0.
The Wellness Day event is being held annually and the main aim is to ensure that workers are able to socialise.
