Kamplits set for start of new league

LIMPOPO – CALL them “cornered tigers” or whatever else to describe a desperate team to redeem itself, but Bela Bela-based volleyball outfit, Kamplits will be a threat to their counterparts when the Limpopo Volleyball Association’s provincial league resumes this month.

As the reigning league champions in both the men and women’s categories, Kamplits have to win their opening matches to boost their morale, a much-needed factor that could help them reclaim the honours of the domestic game.

Coach Levy Thantsha and the players are up against the wall as they still have to face off against terrifying juggernauts like Mosokolare, Bull Dogs and Botlowa Evergreen, who finished the previous season in second, third and fourth places respectively.

Fighting for survival is what usually brings out a team which features one of the robust blockers of the modern game in Potlako Moloisane. Not only is Moloisane a sturdy blocker, but also a fierce attacker.

Thantsha can still pin his faith on the best setter award winner, Tebogo Maenetja, as well as Phindi Issa, who is a reputable smooth server.

After provincial tournaments director, Masipa “Mass” Mailula announced that several teams had registered for this year’s league season, Kamplits made their intention clear that they are ready for the task ahead.

“This is the moment we have been waiting for. The players have been training hard and it is time to prove to our counterparts that we are the best team in the province,” says Thantsha.

The past months have been a headache for Mailula as most teams continually failed to re-affiliate with the provincial governing body for the 2015 season.

But over the weekend, Mailula, who is the brain and driving force behind Evergreen’s game plan, confirmed that over 12 clubs had re-registered for this season.

“We have been struggling to bring back some of our affiliate members to the league. Today I can confirm that most of the teams have registered. This means we can start the league anytime,” said Mailula.
