Blood flows at Cage Rage 9

It was all-out war at Eksteen's Dojo when Cage Rage 9 took place on Saturday, April 25.

POLOKWANE – It was all-out war at Eksteen’s Dojo when Cage Rage 9 took place on Saturday, April 25.

The dojo was full and the night promised to be action packed in the cage, with supporters cheering them on.

The first fight was between Abram Makobela and Brandon Mashinya, both from Eksteen’s Dojo, who fought in the junior boys’ division. Makobela beat Mashinya with a technical knockout in the first round.

In the individual men’s senior under 65kg’s division, Kobus Young and Donovan Kotze fought hard until the fight was won by Young in the second round when he caught Kotze in an arm bar.

In the senior men’s triple threat bout, Bricks Mothike came first, with Lesetja Maja in second place and Sydney Esterhuizen in third place.

The main fight for the coveted title of Last Man Standing was won by Cassie Bezuidenhout, who was crowned as the new South African World International Martial Arts Association and Organisation champion, winning prize money of R3 000.

Esterhuizen’s competitors were former champion, Victor Moyo and Franna van de Eende.

The showstopper of the evening was the Bare Fist Brawl, which, according to Eksteen, took place for the first time in South Africa with only two fighters entering. Paul Kubannek beat Bezuidenhout in the first round with a choke out.

Eksteen said thanks to the success of the evening, Cage Rage 10 would take place in three months’ time, with this 10th edition being even bigger and better.
