LIMPOPO – THE University of Limpopo’s (UL) men and women’s basketball teams rode a rollercoaster of passion and fury to win the Limpopo Basketball Tournament, which was held at the Nkowankowa outdoor courts on Friday.
In the women’ category, UL confirmed why they were rated among the most competitive institutions in varsity basketball, as they walloped Chill Shooters 32-8 in a one-way traffic encounter.
Inspired by the heroic performance displayed by their female counterparts, the equally competitive men’s team clobbered Chill Shooters 24-17 in a tension-filled clash of the titans.
The teams’ head coach, Nkhululeko Mthalane dispelled the pre-determined falsehood that the tournament would be won by the all-conquering Seshego Sonics, who have won the tournament over the past few years.
“We are on the right track to win our varsity games when the time for the tournament arrives. With the star players I have at my disposal, I am optimistic that we will beat other institutions with relative ease. Everyone is focused and the level of fitness is highly impressive. They are a well organised unit and they complement each other well on court.”
