Nguni race last (local) chance to qualify for Comrades Marathon

Runners from all spheres will flock to Nguni Grill to participate in the last 48 km ultra Marathon Comrades qualifier that will take place on May 1.

POLOKWANE – Runners from all spheres will flock to Nguni Grill to participate in the last 48 km ultra Marathon Comrades qualifier that will take place on May 1.

Some of the runners who have already qualified to participate in the 90th Comrades Marathon will get an opportunity to improve their seeding.

Athletes will be competing in races such as 48 km run, 21,1 km run, 10 km run and 5 km fun run.

The winner of the 48 km will walk away with R1 000 and a gold medal, while the second place winner will receive R500 anda silver medal and third place runner will get R200 and a bronze medal.

In the 21,1 km run the first place winner will receive R300 and a gold medal while second place will walk home with R150 and a silver medal.

An entry for the 48 km run is R100, R60 for 21,1 km, and R40 for 10 km and R20 for 5 km fun run. Athletes are urged to bring their run licences and for those who do not have one can purchase a temporary licence for only R25 on race day.

Calie Swart one of the organisers said they are looking forward to crown the winners and he urged athletes to prepare themselves. “There are less than 40 days to the main event which is the Comrades Marathon and I am sure athletes have been preparing themselves for this big event. I would also like to encourage those who qualified for the Comrades already to attend the race to improve their seeding,” said Swart.
